Misanthrope Press is a new, exciting, small press publisher. To us, that means we’re a bit more personal than the “big guys” and more professional than the average “do-it-yourselfer” with the library photocopier and a staple gun. To you, that means we’re open (eager, even) to find and publish talented writers in a quality manner with a minimum of expense and headache on everyone’s part.

Now, we don’t expect you to trust us with your writing and why should you? You don’t know us. And giving something as personal as your writing to a stranger would be akin to leaving your children with the sex offender who now lives just down the street. But we know you have to trust someone, or at least act as though you do, and for a few select writers we hope to become that someone. We're writers ourselves, and understand how painful the process of handing our work over to someone else can be. And while we recognize that all writers are somewhat masochistic in nature, we want to provide as much pleasure with the pain as we can.

We are, essentially, authors just like you that have decided to expand our horizons and move into the field of publishing. If you figure out why, by all means, let us know. It probably has to do with the fact that we’re just as masochistic as you are with the firm belief that we’re smarter than the average bear and can make this enterprise work, not only for our authors, but for ourselves as well.

All that being said, let’s get to the us part of About Us. Prior to starting Misanthrope Press, both C. Bryan Brown and Inanna Gabriel have worked in the internet publishing field.

Inanna Gabriel started and supported the Fertile Ground website which published her own work and that of other writers and she was also the founder of the pagan website, Inner Path, which featured a Wicca 101 course that she authored.

C. Bryan Brown volunteered on the Harrow’s peer review board. The position included being a part of zine policies and decisions.

In addition to these ventures, we are both published writers and have a solid grasp on what makes a good novel, novella, short story, what have you. More importantly, we don’t consider ourselves to be the controllers of your fate and won’t respond to you with a condescending dissertation. You will make it somewhere, even if it’s not with us.

And now that you know a little about Misanthrope Press and us, let us get to know you. Send us your best work and the future could be bright indeed.
